Learning to parry effectively can trivialize many humanoid enemies and even some bosses. The small leather shield or buckler have the most forgiving parry windows.
Most enemies are weak to specific damage types: knights (lightning), beasts (fire), armored foes (strike), and abyssal creatures (dark). Keep a variety of weapons infused accordingly.
Many large enemies and bosses have difficulty hitting you if you stay close and circle to their back. This works especially well on the Dancer and Curse-Rotted Greatwood.
Don't be afraid to use NPC summons (Anri, Eygon, Sirris) for tough fights. They provide distraction and their damage adds up, especially against bosses like Aldrich.
Bombs, throwing knives, dung pies, and urns can make a big difference in tight spots. Stock up when you can.
Having different weapon types is crucial - straight swords for quick enemies, greatswords for staggering, and strike weapons for skeletons and armored knights.
Rolling towards or through enemy attacks often gives you better positioning than rolling away, especially against large sweeping strikes from bosses like the Dancer.
Hidden walls are everywhere in Dark Souls 3. Attack or roll into suspicious-looking walls, especially in areas like the Catacombs or Irithyll Dungeon.
The 30% HP boost from Ember can make a huge difference in survivability. There are enough Embers in the game not to worry about running out, especially when farming Lothric Knights.
Never exhaust your stamina completely - always save enough for at least one roll or block. Running out against aggressive enemies like Pontiff's knights means certain death.
